Amelia started smiling on Monday (1/28).  She had smiled before but they were probably random muscle twitches or because was pooping or had gas (I bet she’ll love reading this someday knowing all of the people that have read it).

These smiles are genuine and meant for her mommy and daddy.  She looks straight at us when we’re talking to her or making faces and she gives us a big ole grin.

What a joyous feeing!

Here are a few of her smiles (it’s so hard to capture them…we’ll get better at that!)

Amelia hasn’t been napping well lately so I decided to subject her to some mommy torture…dressing up in costume and having her photo taken.

Here are some of her funny faces.

How can you resist this sweet pitiful face?

We went for Amelia’s 1 month pediatrician appointment today and she looks perfect!

As suspected she’s grown…

12/18 – 6lbs 1.6oz, 19 1/4″ (birth)

12/20 – 5lbs 13oz (leaving the hospital, 2 days old)

12/26 – 6lbs 5oz, 20 1/2″ (first pediatrician appt., 1 week & 1 day old)

1/11 – 8lbs 4.4oz (3 weeks & 3 days old)

1/24 – 9lbs 3oz, 21 5/8″ (1 month check-up, 5 weeks & 2 days)

She’s in the 50th percentile on weight and 75th percentile on height. Her head circumference is 14″ which puts her in the 50th percentile. The doctor was happy with her growth and gave her a clean bill of health.

Hey everybody. I’m going to discontinue our home phone service as we hardly use it. So… please make sure you have our mobile numbers, as that’s now the best way to reach us by phone. I’m not posting the numbers here for obvious reasons – but if you don’t have them, please send an email.

We had a wonderful weekend spent with our family.

Amelia’s Godmother, her cousin (my Goddaughter), her Great Aunt and Great Uncle came to visit from New York. We’re all pooped out from shopping and goofing off, but we had a fabulous time together.

We finally got the three girls together for some photos… (Amelia was pooped out hence the stoner look)

Small = Amelia (1 month)

Medium = Kaitlynn (5 months)

Large = Keira (7 months)

Here are my favorites…

Believe it or not but our little monkey is already a month old…or a month young as my Gramps would say.  It’s been the most exhilarating and exhausting month of our lives.

She’s growing so quickly and she’s already achieving milestones.  On 1/15 she rolled from her tummy to her back and on 1/21 she rolled from her back to her tummy.  One of her arms was still under her when she rolled from her back to her tummy, but she still made it on her own.  I simply can’t believe that she’s already capable of these feats.  I guess that’s what happens when you’re a little stringbean baby…she’s all arms and legs.

Her eyes are focusing more now (dilate properly) and she’ll lock eyes with me/Dustin and she’ll watch us as we walk around the room.  She’s also grabbing at objects I put in front of her, my hair, my hands, toys, etc.

We also seem to have a sleeping pattern, she’s down at 11:00, up between 3:00-4:00 for a feeding and up again 3 hours later.  It’s crazy that I celebrate 3-3.5 hours of sleep in a row, but this is a huge accomplishment for a breastfed 1 month old baby.

She’s our greatest joy and we love watching her grow and learn.

Here’s our little monkey at 1 month.

Our chunky monkey is getting so big!

12/18 – 6lbs 1.6oz, 19.25″ (birth)

12/20 – 5lbs 13oz (leaving the hospital, 2 days old)

12/26 – 6lbs 5oz, 20.5″ (first pediatrician appt., 1 week & 1 day old)

1/11 – 8lbs 4.4oz (3 weeks & 3 days old)

She now has the sweetest chunky cheeks and thighs.

Here’s our little chunkster!

Now I know why my parents and my in-laws are always telling stories about the silly things we did when we were kids.  They tell them because they are funny, to get a rise out of us and to embarrass us in front of our spouses.  I can’t wait to do the same to Amelia!

This week alone she’s projectile vomited all over me twice and while changing her diaper she’s tooted countless times and pooped on me at least 3 times.  We were warned about the shooting poop and boy can that stuff fly!

Have I mentioned how much I love this child?  She brightens every moment of my day…yes, even when she’s pooping on me.

Here’s our little monkey during her favorite time of the day, bath time!

I can’t believe that our sweet little newborn is already 3 weeks old!  She’s definitely hit her 3 week growth spurt and wants to eat, eat, eat and not sleep, sleep, sleep. Read the rest of this entry »

We’ve given it two good attempts and we are going to keep trying.  The first time Amelia spit the bottle out and screamed like a fool.  She apparently doesn’t like the Avent or Nuk newborn nipples.  We tried the next day with the Dr. Brown’s bottle and she took about 1/2 ounce.  It’s not perfect, but it’s a start.

We are going to keep trying and slowly adjust her to taking a bottle or two a day so Daddy can participate in the feedings.  She won’t take a pacifier, a finger or anything else so it’s a bit of an uphill battle introducing her to something other than well, me.
