So, about a month ago…yes I am that far behind on blogging. I won a radio contest to go to a private performance at the radio station with Gavin DeGraw and tickets to his show that night.
I took my awesome sister-in-law Lindsay with me and we had a great time. I only knew two of Gavin songs before going so I can’t say that I was a huge fan, but they were free tickets and I was looking forward to a cool experience. We sat for about 1.5 hours waiting for him to arrive because he was held up in traffic, it’s Houston, what can I say?
They eventually moved us into a conference room to wait for him and he arrived shortly thereafter. The entire time I was thinking that we were going to go into some large sound studio where a band, other fans, DJs, etc. would be waiting. Nope, they ushered all 6 of us into a radio booth with him for a meet & greet and for him to play two songs live on the radio. Lindsay went first meeting him, getting his autograph and getting a picture with him. He teased her about the “English spelling” of her name.
Next it was my turn – signature, hug (he says “Hold Me” when you’re supposed to hug him – kinda cute, yet dorky…just my type) and then the photograph. We took a picture together and then he commented on my digital camera. I took my purse camera that day (a Canon G10) because I didn’t want to look like the giant stalker freak carrying one of my BIG cameras. He liked my camera and we talked cameras for a bit…apparently he’s in the market for a new P&S and I might have sold him on the G10 over the G9 (last year’s model).
He sang two songs, one of the hits from his last album and one from his new record. He just played his guitar and sang. It was amazing seeing him super duper close-up as he put everything he had into his performance. You can tell that he lives and breathes his music.
He joked, avoided answering the DJs’ questions and was goofy and quite charming.
Here’s the not so fabulous picture of me with the charming and adorable Gavin DeGraw.
