Wow, where to begin. Amelia is a full on, pardon the expression balls-to-the walls toddler. She has no fear and proves it far too often, which often results in crying and bruises. She’s insane, no really.
She was taking steps from about 10 months on, but started walking full time just before her birthday. She’ll still crawl for the heck of it once a day, but that’s by no means her primary method of transport.
She’s talking…a lot. I wonder who she gets that trait from…yep, her daddy…ha! Like her mommy she will likely have “talks excessively” checked on every report card she ever receives.
Her words to date are….
Ma-ma, Da-Da, cat/kitty, book, ball, chair, me, mine, more, fish, hi, no, juice, shoe, sock, bath and BYE (yes, it’s in all caps for a reason, she only knows how to belt it out)
She’s working on more words, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I’ll add more as I remember them.
She does her fish faces (pictured below, albeit a not very good picture of her doing it)
Amelia climbs everything; furniture, playgrounds, stairs, dogs, etc. Again, she has no fear. She moved the gate at the bottom of the stairs not once, but twice and climbed all the way to the top to see the Christmas tree in the gameroom. I almost had a heart attack, both times. Thankfully there’s a more permanent gate at the bottom of the stairs now.
With clothes on she’s 19lbs 12oz…very close to the 20lb mark they have to be at to turn around in the car seat. The issue is that she’s more than 30″ long so she has to be folded in half in order for us to put her up into her car seat. She likes her car seat now (the super fancy convertible one), but is starting to lose her patience with the baby folding.
Amelia points at anything she wants and says me/mine and then points at herself. She’s particularly good at pointing at the candy jar and doing this. When she doesn’t get her way she shows off how well she has mastered throwing a temper tantrum.
We haven’t entered into the full on temper tantrum phase yet (kicking, screaming, laying on the floor type), but we have started screaming and sitting in one place. I usually just let her sit there and work it out on her own, but if she doesn’t settle down after a bit I’ll help her work through it….nope, she doesn’t get the candy after all!
Amelia loves trying to sing along to anything Elmo. I haven’t decided if I should track down the inventors of Elmo and hold them for ransom or send them a thank you note each day showing my appreciation for the furry little fellow. I don’t know what it is with Elmo. Something clicks when a baby hits 12-13 months and they just fall in love with him. We can thank my dad for Amelia’s love of Elmo. He gave her a Happy Birthday singing Elmo balloon that still hovers above Amelia’s toys in her room. She points to him and tries so hard to say Elmo when she wants him to sing. That brings me to dancing.
Amelia dances. ALL.OF.THE.TIME! She hears a commercial with a silly jingle, she dances. You sing a silly song to her, she dances. Linda (my MIL) has taken to buying her singing cards. Amelia LOVES them. She got a new one for her last weekend. It’s a bunch of cats (Amelia’s favorite thing ever) singing Happy Birthday. Amelia dances. I will have to video her dancing and embarrass her some day when her first date comes over to pick her up for her first real dance.
Speaking of embarrassment. My sweet baby girl decided this evening she wanted to play with the little potty, you know, the potty training kind. It’s in the bathroom for the girls (Amelia and Keira…not all girls, just little ones) to check out on occasion and see if they want to use it. Amelia is super fascinated by the toilets and flushing them so I’m not surprised that she wants to play with the mini toilet too. When I went into the bathroom I found her pulling on her diaper so I asked her if she wanted to sit on the potty. I took her diaper off, put her on it and told her to pee-pee (yes, we use baby speak for peeing).
She sat for a minute, Daddy brought the camera in and she peed. Yes, my little 13 month old peed on the potty for the first time tonight. When I pull out the videos of Amelia dancing I might just pull these out too…
Don’t you love that she’s checking herself out in the glass of the shower door?
