Some of you already know, but I wanted to share with those who don’t that our grandfather, our Pop passed away on Monday.
I take photographs for families as their families are changing and growing and I take many of my own family too. I don’t know when I take a photograph how it will move someone or how they’ll appreciate it in years to come. But I knew when I took this one how important it would be to me and to my family, how in that moment I was preserving a part of our family’s history. This is why I love photography. In a moment I am able to capture a lifetime.
I took this photograph of Pop in June at Amelia’s baptism. He’s wearing Amelia’s pool hat and smiling Pop’s smile. This is our Pop.
Pop was a jokester and the greatest of storytellers
Pop had the most infectious laugh and you always knew when he was around
Pop was a staunch Republican and taught me to see a bit more conservatively
Pop loved the Red Sox and all things Boston
Pop was Irish to the core and he loved corned beef and hash
Pop read more books than anyone I’ve ever met
Pop’s sneezes were astounding
Pop was stubborn and determined and I know that I got those qualities from him
Pop was in the Navy and I proudly wear his pea coat with the corduroy lined pockets and his original tags sewn into the lining
Pop loved the word Bozo, every fool was a “Bozo”
Pop’s favorite pie was minced meat pie…I think he’s the only person who would call it a favorite
Pop’s love for his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren was undeniable
Pop was adored by all who he encountered and loved tremendously by his family. He will be missed.
I love you Pop
