We told the families today, YEA!!! Here’s how we did it and their reactions.
We went to dinner at Giuseppe’s with Tom and Linda. We told them that we had housewarming gifts for their new homes. They both started opening their gifts at the same time, Linda almost had her gift open when Tom pulled out his gift; a onesie we had printed with ‘First Mate’ and a sail boat on it. Tom thought it was cute and appreciated that we got something for his dog, Tucker…Dustin and I just looked at each other and laughed. Linda finished opening her gift and saw ‘Grandmother’ on the box to her Willow Tree statue and looked at me, then Dustin and then at Tom. She then said ‘Tom, I think they are trying to tell us something,’ Tom was confused, Linda then said, ‘I think they are trying to tell us that we are going to be grandparents’. Tom pulled the onesie back out and looked at it and it clicked…we all laughed, they toasted us and their future grandbaby. We had a wonderful dinner and a great start to the weekend. We called Lindsey after dinner to share the news and Dustin told her by asking how she felt about becoming an aunt…she’s thrilled!
After telling Dustin’s parents we headed over to my parents’ house to finish watching the Astros game (they lost) and share our news. When my parents got back from the Crawfish Festival we were all standing in the kitchen (Mom, Dad, Kevin, Beth and Adrian) when I told my dad that ‘I picked something up that I thought he’d like for his bar’…it was a pregnancy countdown clock…believe it or not, they do make them! They are just like wedding countdown timers, but for pregnancy. He joked about getting one when we were expecting since my cousin, Amee had one when she was getting married and he thought it was too cool. It’s cheesy, but so applicable to my dad’s sense of humor.
Once he opened it he just started at me with a blank stare…a ‘really?’ kind of look on his face. My mom got curious at that point and wanted to see it, so my dad handed it to her with a huge smile on his face. Mom put her glasses on and kept reading ‘Time to Go’ as it was written across the top, then read baby ‘Baby’s Due Date’ across the bottom and it just didn’t click quite yet. She looked back at the timer field and realized that my niece due in just 5 weeks was not due in 234 days…yes, the light bulb turned on! Mom looked at me and had the ‘really?’ look on her face and I just beamed, she screamed and hugged me harder than she’s ever hugged me before. Needless to say they are thrilled.
My older brother, Kevin responded to mom’s scream saying ‘Yep, Kelley’s pregnant!’ and of course he was right.
Dad’s so proud because he insisted just two weeks ago to my mom as I walked down the aisle at my dear friend Paige’s wedding that I was glowing and that I had to be pregnant. Father does know best, I was indeed pregnant.
We then proceeded to tell most of our friends and family and the news was received with lots of ‘Whoops, woo hoo, beautiful, wonderful, awesome, etc.’. It’s so fun sharing such wonderful news.
