We’re BAAAAAAAAAAACK!
Ok, so we’re not home yet (still staying in Spring), but I’m finally back to blogging. Things have been a bit crazy, but here’s a brief run-down of what’s been happening in our world lately.
On Saturday the 27th we packed up and headed to College Station to watch A&M BTHO Army (Beat the Hell Outta Army - well kinda, we sqeaked out a win). We had a great time and then headed back to my parents house where we would stay until Wednesday, October 1st when our out of town family would head home.
Later Saturday night we put the baby to bed and headed to the airport to pick up Amee, Frank and Kaitlynn (my goddaughter). Dustin and I goofed around and rode the airport train and acted like teenagers…no, there were no reenactments of Risky Business you dirty minded people. The train is so ghetto (yes, I did just use the word ghetto)…it’s like they took the original Monorail from Disney and buried it underground. Ok, that was a random side note and has absolutely nothing to do with this post. It was just a good time and reminded us how much fun we can have doing the stupidest things.
We had a great time that Sunday playing in the pool, eating a big family dinner and spending time together as a family. At about 12:30 that night Amee woke me up and told me Frank was in pain and she thought we needed to take him to the hospital. We tried pumping him full of fluids thinking it was dehydration or indigestion. The stomach/chest cramping seemed to subside a bit, but when Frank got up he mentioned that he felt some weakness in his legs. We sat around and talked for a while, he said he was going to lay there and snooze for a bit while Amee was in with the baby so I headed into our room to lay back down for a while. I told Amee that she should come get me if they needed to go to the hospital…she’s a bad listener! I found out the next morning that when Frank tried to stand up he wasn’t able to so Amee went and got my dad and they took him to the hospital at 4:00am.
Frank was just fine earlier in the day, but by early the next morning he could no longer walk, couldn’t move his left leg at all, barely move his right leg and things were going downhill fast. They did so many tests on him, considered every possible issue from MS, Lupus to West Nile. Each negative test brought sighs of relief, but also brought more anxiety about the next test. They finally diagnosed him later in the week with Transverse Myelitis - in layman’s terms a neurological disorder that causes inflamation in a segment of the spinal column that can cause temporary to permanent paralysis…PRETTY SCARY STUFF!
They pumped Frank full of steroids and immediately started physical/occupational therapy. Amee and Frank were told that it would take intensive in-patient therapy to get him moving in the right direction. After many battles with insurance about in-patient centers here in Houston, back in NY, transportation options, etc. they got everything worked out and headed home yesterday…a week and a day after they had originally planned to leave. I am certain that they’re glad to be back home as there’s no place like home. If you want to read the full story in Amee’s words and follow Frank’s progress please click on the link to the side entitled ‘Maz World’.
As for us, we’re here at Mom and Dad’s for two more days then we’re heading back home. We’re going to the A&M vs. K-State game tomorrow. We’ve been helping as we can with the kiddos, Dustin’s working on stuff for my parents and I got a nasty stomach virus that had me out of commission for the last two days (ick, ick, ick). The house is STILL on the market, but we’re hopeful (if not desperate). Please pray that something happens with the house and soon! Ok, that’s enough random rambling for the moment. Amelia’s calling my name…not in the nice sweet mama way, in the wailing, screaming and moaning way.
