Amelia’s become quite the manipulator lately. It’s amazing that a 4 month old can get exactly what they want when they want it. She sure has my number.
I was just bragging about her earlier in the week in the milestones post, about how well she was sleeping. I take it back, I take it all back! She’s decided to wake a few times at night, not because she has a dirty diaper, but because she wants to play. I hate to break it to her, but mommy doesn’t want to play at 4:00 in the morning.
She’ll crab a bit to get me to come into the room, but once I turn the night light on she stops, then makes a few more noises until she sees me at the edge of the crib. She’ll smile and ‘talk’ to me immediately and if I don’t pick her up she’ll cry. She does this new thing that I like to call ‘buck wild child’. She does it when you change her, when you put her in the car seat, when you put her in the bouncer…she pushes her legs down into the ground and bucks her butt up in the air. It makes everything a bit more challenging, but I guess it’s her way of protesting something she doesn’t want to do.
So, in the middle of the night if I don’t pick her up she starts doing the ‘buck wild child’ all over the crib and kinda snickers at me to see what I’ll do. I tried for 45 minutes last night to get her to go back to sleep without picking her up or nursing her, but when 4:45 rolled around I gave in and she won. I don’t know if this is what they call the ‘4 month wakeful period’ or if it’s just her being a poophead, but either way mommy’s gonna win. I just have to figure out what my strategy is so for the moment she’s ahead in the race.
