April 8th, 2008

1 year ago today our lives changed forever. We learned at 5:15 that morning that we were going to be parents. It’s amazing to reflect upon the things that have changed in one short year and how much remains the same.

Sleeping-in, what’s that? We’re thrilled to sleep in until 8:00 these days. We haven’t figured out if the lack of sleeping-in is because of the baby or because we’re finally grown-ups and grown-ups don’t sleep in.

My obsessive compulsive cleaning has disappeared and I don’t miss it. I am however a tiny bit embarrassed to admit that we have 4′ tall weeds growing in our backyard and our master bathroom hasn’t been cleaned in weeks. I find sitting on the floor playing with the baby much more rewarding than scrubbing toilets. Imagine that.

Dining out…we just don’t do it. It’s too expensive and we’ve discovered that we can make much better meals at home. I used to be very ‘anti leftovers’, but I’ve gotten over that and realized that if we have leftovers then we don’t have to cook dinner another day that week. Love it!

All in all we’re the same. We’re approaching our 5th anniversary and we’re still passionately in love with one another. It takes me back to a time when we were in high school and we were making out in the pool in my parent’s backyard. My mom called me into the house and told me we needed to ‘cool it down out there’. I still giggle about that time (I just pray that I NEVER have to say the same to Amelia, sorry mom!) and thankfully we still find time to make out like 16 year old kids.

I simply can’t imagine what life would be like without Amelia. It’s amazing how fast you forget the life you once had and how much you cherish the life you have now. I feel so privileged to be a mother, to be Amelia’s mother. I look forward to all of the changes the coming year will bring and I wonder what I’ll be blogging about on April 8, 2009.
